These lighting techniques are important as they are all obscure or distort in reality in some ways for example, silhouette lighting creates a sense of mystery as well as unidentifiable characters, this method makes the shot seem more dark.
The picture above is an example of a silhouette, you can still identify the characters as 'The Simpsons family' without seeing their faces but they have very distinctive features.
